Thank you for your interest in becoming a sperm donor. With help from men like you, Pacific Reproductive Services has assisted in the creation of over 1700 families since 1984. Donating sperm is literally giving the gift of life to a child and fulfilling the dream of parenthood for many individuals and couples. These new parents are forever grateful to our sperm donors.
As a potential donor, you will go through a six to eight week screening process that begins with a telephone or online interview. If you meet the interview criteria, you will be asked to schedule an appointment to collect a specimen in a private donation room at one of our sperm bank offices. That sample is tested for sperm count, motility and ability to withstand the freezing process. The screening process involves making several different scheduled donations, an in-person interview, a complete physical exam (you will be asked to provide blood, urine and semen samples) and completion of a family health history form and legal agreement. If you meet all screening standards, you will be accepted into the program and compensated $100 per donation that meets our minimum sperm count. Most donors donate on once or twice weekly over a minimum one-year period or 65 donations.
PRS sperm donors have no parental rights or responsibilities to any children born using their semen. California law says that a man who provides his semen to a licensed sperm bank for the purpose of inseminating a woman who is not his wife, is not seen as a natural father to any subsequent offspring. Thereby, the parental rights of the recipient of the sperm are protected, and the donor is protected from having parental responsibility. You will be asked to sign a consent form acknowledging this law. We limit the number of offspring per donor to approximately twenty (20) families worldwide and the anonymous donor's identity is not revealed to the recipient or any children born from his sperm.
PRS offers a Willing To Be Known (WTBK) option, that allows for offspring to meet their donor if such offspring wishes after they reach legal age. We ask that our donors consider agreeing to be known to any children when they reach the age of adulthood, which in California is eighteen years old. This entails signing a legal contract agreeing to a one-time meeting with the child, if requested by the child at or after the age of eighteen. After this meeting, the donor's obligation has been fulfilled and no further contact is required, unless both donor and offspring mutually agree to it.
